A private family archive

Terms of use

Version 2026-09-22, dated 22 September 2026.

This page explains in plain language how the family archive works and who processes what you save in it.

What this archive is

rodzinka.life is the private archive of one family: the family tree, photos, documents, recorded and written memories, and family events. People join only by invitation from the archive's owner. Everyone invited can see the family archive, and roles decide who can make changes in it.

What you add

Recordings, photos, documents and stories are kept with no time limit. You can withdraw a memory, and to have something removed for good, ask the archive's owner.

Where the data is kept

The archive's database and files are on Microsoft Azure servers in the European Union (West Europe region).

AI features – who processes what

Some features use artificial intelligence. This is who processes your content, and what for:

  • Speech recognition on our own server (Whisper) – transcribes recordings of relatives who did not agree to services outside the server. Such a recording never leaves the server.
  • Deepgram (USA) – turns saved recordings of people with an account (and of relatives who agreed to this) into text, and, when you turn on live text, shows the text as you record.
  • Anthropic's Claude models (USA), through our AI gateway – reading scanned documents, the document assistant, and “Tidy up with AI” (correcting and tidying a recording's transcript).
  • An OpenAI image model through OpenRouter (USA) – restoring old photos (“Restore with AI”) and painting the family tree poster.

A saved recording is turned into text so that it can be read. The other features only run when someone uses them. By using a feature you agree that the content it needs – the recording, the text, the scan, the photo, or the names from the tree for the poster – is sent to that service for that purpose. The saved text is always shown to you for review, and the original recording is never overwritten.
